The Alex Ross segment The classical music of the twentieth century,
March 18, 2008 This review is from: Charlie Rose - Alex Ross / Miran Alsop (January 15, 2008) (DVD)
Ross speaks about the classical music of the twentieth century and wonders why it has not achieved the iconic status that the Art and Literature of the century have achieved. He speaks about the major forces- Dissonance- Jazz-have had on twentieth- century music. He answers Charlie Rose's questions in an informative way. For instance he suggests that a primary role of the Conductor is his selecting repertoire and on this basis alone Serge Koussevitsky was one of the great conductors of the century. Ross says that composition in music has reached the stage where there is a great deal of syncretization, recombination of different modes and styles. He points to the tremendous availability of music now. And he expresses his admiration for anyone who composes classical music, a path in life he tried and was not able to succeed in.
He also speaks about the state of present- day orchestras in the United States.
This is truly a rich segment.

Difficult to review the product, because the service seems to leave something ot be desired. The shipment date keeps getting later and later; fine, but can't you at least explain why?
And how can you be so careless as to indicate that it contains an interview with MIRAN Alsop???? MARIN, MARIN Alsop!
