The exception track," Almost like Being in Love" includes Baker but excludes Bill Evans. However, if the above titles are not included in your jazz collection, this CD is highly recommended. The sessions dates are identified as Dec. 1958, plus January and July 1959. Both featured artists are in top musical form. Their interpretations of these jazz standards are exceptional. The backing musicians are truly the gold standard of jazz recording artists. All these individuals are legendary jazz icons with very successful solo careers. I would echo the review by Richard Ferris that if you don't have these sessions and you love both Chet Baker and Bill Evans, then you really should buy this CD. It is extremely lyrical and beautiful jazz. Granted it does highlight Chet Baker, but it does show how an artist such as Bill Evans (similar to Kind of Blue) can bring something that makes the sessions oh so complete. 38 of 45 people found the following review helpful By This review is from: Legendary Sessions (Audio CD) I'm not really a jazz afficianado, but i know enough to know that once you get past Miles Davis, it doesn't get much better than Chet Baker. Mix well with legendary keyboardist Bill Evans and you've got a sweet combination. The players display virtuosity , yet restraint and play beautifully as a unit. Many of the songs are takes on standards, lovingly arranged and played. For those like me who are not heavily into jazz, the songs are accessible and don't leave the casual listener wondering what the hell is this like the more atonal and free form records do. I highly recommend this cd. |
