I personally am more of a fan of the beach stuff, but can still say that the 2nd disc is incredible and I find myself listening to both equally. I have been listening to the ASOT Yearly mixes since 2004 and 2009 and 2010 were lacking. I would venture to say that 2011 is the best one made to date, and I really like 06 & 07 before. For a second I thought Armin was selling out, but this completely blew me away. EnjoyEDIT: It's been a few days and I've had a chance to listen to both discs completely through a few times now. Daniel Kandi's If it Aian't Broke is DK's usual fantastic fare and My Inner Island by The Blizzard provides fantastic guitar work. In fact, much of the Beach Disc contains much more "real" instrumentation than recent AVB releases. A great new trend. Disc 1 feels like AVB's interpretation of Magic Island by Roger Shah. Great Balearic style, with AVB's unique and unequaled mixing talent. The fire gets even hotter with the "In the Club " disc. Each song here is a dance floor burner but Super8 & Tab (another highly underrated act) kill it with My... I've listened to the preceding year's albums ("A State of Trance"), and find this one to be a great successor. The journey is paved with an colorful blend of vibrant tracks and ambient vocals. |
